What if power isn't about having control over others...

What if it's simply the capacity to act?

In this episode of The Spiritually Curious Therapist, I sit down with Maritza Schaefer, founder of Bruja School and creator of the Liberation Magic Method. Raised in Chile in a family of witches, Maritza offers a perspective on spirituality that invites us to look beyond stereotypes and consider magic as the practice of transforming our lives with intention.

As our conversation unfolded, we found ourselves exploring questions that extend far beyond witchcraft. We talked about the relationship between spirituality and religion, the role of community in healing, how our mind, body, subconscious, nervous system, and spirit work together, and why so many of us forget the power we already have.

One idea, in particular, stayed with me:

Power is the capacity to act.

It's a simple definition, but one that has the potential to change how we think about healing, agency, and creating meaningful change in our lives.

In this episode, we explore:

  • What it was like growing up in a family of witches in Chile
  • Why Maritza believes magic is "the craft of transforming reality"
  • The difference between religion and a personal spiritual practice
  • What it means to reconnect with your own power
  • How the conscious mind, subconscious, body, nervous system, and spirit influence change
  • Why awareness opens the door to new possibilities
  • The importance of daily practice over quick fixes
  • Finding your unique "medicine" and sharing it with the world
  • Why healing is easier when we walk alongside others

Whether you're deeply spiritual, curious about consciousness, or simply interested in new ways of thinking about healing and transformation, this conversation offers an invitation to pause, reflect, and consider what becomes possible when we reconnect with ourselves.
